I think everyone would agree that the BARRC fun day held on August 10, 2003 was a great success. The location was wonderful. We had a big grassy field for lure coursing practice and then another area slightly separated from the lure coursing where we had our meeting, lunch and other activities.

The lure coursing practice was a big hit. We were able to hold 112 runs between 8 and 10:30 am! Many dogs ran 2 or 3 times and some ran with a partner. There were a lot of first timers out there who proved they are excellent coursers. We hope to see many new faces at future lure coursing trials! Many thanks to Sue McNeill, Janice Schindler-Horvat, Jim Horvat and Maureen Garcia for setting up the course, running the lure and keeping things running smoothly. We even had a Weimeraner Desmo, who proved to be a great courser!!!

At the BARRC membership meeting we voted to donate $500 to northern California Ridgeback rescue and $500 to RTI!

Following the meeting we had lunch and the raffle. A big thank you to Diane Jacobsen for bringing all the hot dogs, rolls and chili - I don't believe anyone left hungry!

Nancy Faville did an excellent job setting up the raffle table. There were huge baskets full of goodies, free handling classes, concert tickets and much more. David Cherry and Ken Holder won the grand prize - a large rattan crate! Thank you Nancy for doing such a great job!

Jennifer Underwood and her friend Mara Wild_Seuer ran the Canine Good Citizen and Therapy Dog tests. Several dogs participated with 3 passing:

Callie - owned by Sandra Welch
Quinn - owned by Terri King
Aja - owned by Carol Vesely

In addition, the animal communicator Lesley Schneider, was available all day for "consultations." She seemed to be busy all day. And Theresa Bowermaster provided her photography services - there was a crowd around her booth all day long!

All in all it was a very nice day. The weather cooperated and didn't get too terribly hot. It was a fun day for all Ridgebacks - big and small, young and old - to get together and have a play day!
